Fourth Annual Archives Month Celebration

SAN MARCOS, Texas – On Friday, October 23 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., the Wittliff Collections and the University Archives at the Alkek Library, Texas State University–San Marcos, will be hosting a panel consisting of representatives from area archives who have undergone recent building projects, as well as a shelving/space planning expert and an architect.

Panelists scheduled to speak are: Mark Boone, Architect, Bailey Architects Inc.; Troy Menchhofer and Daryl Miller, Southwest Solutions Group; Laura Saegert, Archivist, Texas State Library and Archives Commission; Eric Shoaf, Assistant Dean for Administration, University of Texas-San Antonio Library.

Each panelist will give a short presentation about a recent project, followed by a moderated discussion. There will also be time for questions and/or comments from audience members. The panel is designed to help demystify the process behind renovating and building new gallery, storage and staff space for a library, archives or museum.

The panel will be followed by a tour of the newly constructed University Archives and recently renovated Wittliff Collections, then a catered, hors d’oeuvres reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

All three activities, which will be held at the Wittliff Collections on the Alkek Library’s seventh floor, are free and open to the public. Attendance of the panel or tour is not required to attend the reception.
