The J. Frank Dobie Papers, donated by Bill and Sally Wittliff, are my favorite things at The Wittliff because they were the spark that created The Wittliff Collections.

What is your favorite thing at The Wittliff?
One of my favorite things at The Wittliff is the Mexican photographer’s camera, horse and tourist photographs. The photographer set it up in the town plaza, attracting tourists for a souvenir photograph. It is a unique time-capsule.

An audiotape interview with Tejano singer Esmi Talamantez is my favorite thing at The Wittliff. In it, she talks about what Selena meant to her, as a strong and powerful female performer.

What is your favorite thing at The Wittliff?
My favorite thing at The Wittliff is a handful of musical scores handwritten by Cenobio Hernandez, a silent film era orchestra musician, whose waltzes and polkas for his granddaughters are a window to the sounds of San Antonio in the 1940s.

My favorite thing at The Wittliff are the researchers. We preserve these collections so that they will be used, and it is wonderful when someone comes in – no matter their age, background, or interests – and discover something that really resonates with them.

What is your favorite thing at The Wittliff?
My favorite thing in The Wittliff is Willie Nelson’s first songbook. I mean, the guy had written a song called “Hangover Blues" by the time he was 12! That’s serious business!
