The Wittliff Collections celebrates what would have been the 70th birthday of Texas blues guitar icon Stevie Ray Vaughan with a new photo exhibit, a film screening, conversation and birthday cake. Houston photographer Tracy Anne Hart and filmmaker Kirby F. Warnock are special guests at this Thursday evening event. Hart was a close friend and took some of the most iconic and recognized photographs of SRV. Ten of his favorite photos are on display in the Spirit of Place Gallery and in La Avenida. Warnock’s excellent documentary “Brothers in Blues: The Story of Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughan” is a must-see for any music lover and fan of the blues. Hart and Warnock’s work offer insights into the mythic brotherly relationship. The program begins with opening remarks from Hart and Warnock followed by a screening of “Brothers in Blues.” Click here for more information

The Wittliff Collection celebrates the publication of “Outlaw Country Reporter: Misfits, Madams and Hangin’ with Willie,” a memoir by legendary newspaperman and gonzo outlaw journalist Sam Kindrick who chronicled the birth of outlaw country music and Americana and befriended some of the region’s most outlandish and offbeat characters. Kindrick’s massive Action Magazine archive is among the digitization successes at The Wittliff and a much-utilized resource with more than 4,000 historic photographs.  The Sunday afternoon event and book signing begins with a reception and includes a conversation with Sam Kindrick and music legend Augie Meyers of the Texas Tornados Click here for more information
